About

The Campaign for Media Standards has been created to combat bias in the media. It is committed to redressing significant systemic imbalance and promoting accuracy in journalism.

Founder and director Trevor Asserson has a long history of opposing bias at the BBC in its coverage of the Middle East. He draws upon his expertise as a leading litigation lawyer to hold the Corporation to account against its own editorial guidelines on accuracy and impartiality.

The campaign has been created amidst widespread concern over biased reporting by major media outlets in the coverage of conflict in the Middle East since October 7, 2023. There has been particular controversy over the BBC because of its unique authority and reach.

The goal is to address bias and to promote balanced journalism. The national and global influence of the BBC has made it the inescapable starting point, but the campaign is ready to scrutinise other major media outlets with a UK presence.
